  • Dr. Alan Jacobsen MB. BCh. BAO. is an Assistant Professor at the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ of Utah School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ of Galway, Ireland. He completed a combined Medical/Surgical internship at the Mater Misericordiae Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Hospital, Dublin, Ireland and basic specialty training in General Internal Medicine at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Hospital Galway, Ireland. He moved to the United States to pursue further medical training joining the the Osler Internal Medicine Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Maryland. He subsequently completed his Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital where he received dedicated training in Sports Cardiology and Echocardiography.

    Dr. Jacobsen is building the Sports Cardiology program at the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ of Utah. He cares for a wide range of athletes including those participating in amateur competition, college sports and at the professional level. He oversees the cardiac preparticipation screening process for all Ï㽶ÊÓƵ of Utah athletes and evaluates athletes presenting with cardiovascular symptoms or abnormal test results. He has experience in evaluating competitive athletes who have symptoms and provides a shared-decision making based management plan to those with with cardiovascular conditions.

    Dr. Jacobsen is part of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy team at the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ of Utah. He is a clinical trial site investigator for therapies directed towards helping patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. His clinical duties involve ensuring an accurate diagnosis of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy based on clinical assessment, appropriate imaging and genetic evaluation. This is performed in parallel with the initiation of appropriate medical therapy and referral for surgical evaluation when indicated.

    Aside from medicine Dr. Jacobsen enjoys hiking with his wife and daughter, checking out coffee options in SLC and joining the RMCC on their group bike rides.
